Burna boy grabbed the win for Best International Act at the 2021 BET Awards held on Sunday, defeating other artists like Wizkid and Diamond Platnumz nominated in the same category. This makes it the third BET award the music star, who recently won a Grammy award for his album Twice As Tall, has won. In 2020, Burna boy beat several artists like Rema, Innoss’B, Sho Madjozi, Stormzy and Dave to win the same award.
Accompanied by his mother, Bose Ogulu, to receive his plaque, the Portharcourt born singer said "before I leave here, I want to teach you guys a little bit about where you are all really from", suggesting to the cheering audience that they have African roots. The singer gave his speech before Cardi B announced her pregnancy at the show. Other artists nominated alongside Burna boy include Headie One, Young T & Bugsey and Aya Nakamura
