Mercy Aigbe and her ex-husband, Asiwaju Lanre Gentry, went back and forth again, reigniting an infamous fight between the estranged couple. Aigbe celebrated herself and "all the responsible fathers out there" on Father's Day in a now-deleted post on Instagram. "Please, no one should come and tell me how I shouldn't take the shine off fathers", the actress wrote, adding, "Fatherhood is beyond impregnating a woman." That, however, became a bone of contention between the actress and her former significant other as the latter found it offensive that the former took credit for his efforts in raising their kids. Seemingly pissed off with Aigbe, he posted a rebuttal, accusing the actress of not being a good mother or housewife.
In his lengthy rant, Gentry further indicated that some women do not know what Father's Day means because they neither have a good background nor their parents together. The 56-year-old businessman didn't mention any names; nevertheless, it became obvious that he was throwing a shade at Aigbe when he alleged in another deleted Instagram post that he has helped her pay school fees for another man's daughter.
Again, that did not go well with Mercy Aigbe, who called out her ex directly. In part, her caption read, "the most irresponsible father award goes to my ex! This shameless man...will rather come online to post rubbish". She added, "I normally ignore you when you respond to my Father's Day post! But you see this one! Bring it on." Gentry did not seem fazed by his ex-wife's warning, as he went on to call her a prostitute, among other things. "[Mercy Aigbe], it doesn't take me a minute to expose all your shady secrets...prostitution acts...but I will not because of my son", he wrote.
Mercy and Lanre Gentry divorced in 2017 after the actress publicly accused him of domestic violence.
