'Sunday Igboho chained to the floor like an animal waiting to be slaughtered' - Lawyer laments

Chief Yomi Aliyu (SAN), a lawyer to Yoruba Nation separatist Sunday Adeyemo, alias Sunday Igboho, has accused the Benin Republic police of maltreating his client.

Aliyu said Sunday Igboho has been subjected to inhumane treatment in Cotonou, Benin Republic.

He claimed that despite his appeals, the police have continually told him that they were acting based on orders given to them by a higher authority.

"The police source told me that they are under instruction by an order from above that Igboho should be chained like an animal waiting to be slaughtered", he said, adding, "he told me that Igboho was tightly chained to the floor, and he is in serious pain."

He added that he could hear the cries of Mr Sunday writhing in pain. When he tried pleading that the chains be removed to ease his client's pain, his cries met deaf ears.

Sunday Igboho, who has been on the run since the Department of State Services raided his residence, was arrested in Cotonou alongside his wife.

According to Punch, a travel agent lured the separatist back to the airport around 8 pm where he was apprehended by the International Criminal Police Organisation, Interpol.

Nigeria’s Ambassador to the Benin Republic, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai (retd.), reportedly played a vital role in the arrest of Sunday Igboho through a secret letter to the country's government.
