Google is investigating eNaira's disappearance from the Play Store

Google is investigating the disappearance of the eNaira app from the play store, HotNaija has confirmed. On Wednesday, Nigerians woke up to discover that the digital currency application had been removed from Google's play store, just shy of two days after President Muhammadu Buhari launched it.

The development came on the heels of eNaira's 100,000-download milestone, and many speculated that it was deleted for negative reviews. CBN spokesman Osita Nwanisobi also told Punch Newspapers that the eNaira wallet was removed because of "an update going on at the moment by Google". 

However, Google's communications and public affairs manager for West Africa, Taiwo Kola-Ogunlade, told HotNaija that the app's removal is being looked into. "We are currently investigating this, and will get back to you as soon as we understand more," Ogunlade said in response to HotNaija's inquiries regarding the app's disappearance.

While the eNaira is still available on the App Store, it has received a slew of bad ratings. Most users are complaining about issues signing up and linking their Bank Verification Number.
