Mercy Johnson was born on August 28 in Lagos State, Nigeria, to Mr. Daniel Johnson (retd. Naval officer) and Mrs. Elizabeth Johnson (a trader). She originally hails from Okene, Kogi State. She is the 4th child in her family of 7.
She had her early primary school education in Calabar, Cross River State, before relocating to Lagos with her father, who was transferred to Lagos as a naval officer. She furthered her primary school at the Nigerian Navy primary school before heading back again to Rivers State Secondary school, then to the Nigerian Navy Secondary school, Port Harcourt.
Career
On concluding her secondary school education and awaiting another year to write her Jamb examinations after failing the previous one, she auditioned for a role in "The Maid."
Her incredible performance in "The Maid" in the then-struggling Nigerian movie industry kick-started her success story as an actress. Ever since the film was released to the world to see, Mercy Johnson subsequently appeared in lead roles all of a sudden, as producers needed her incredible performance on their movies.
Since her debut in 2004, she has starred in over 200 movies in and out of Nigeria (predominantly African countries).
