Boy sets himself ablaze after he couldn't pay NECO fees

A resident of Garo town in the Kabo Local Government Area of Kano state set himself on fire over his inability to raise funds for his Secondary School Leaving Certificate Examinations (SSCE) by NECO.

The 20-year-old man, named Danladi Shu’aib, reportedly always talked about committing suicide due to his incessant failure of the NECO exams and his inability to secure admission into college.

Danladi made efforts to raise money for his fourth try of the exam but could only raise half of the stipulated fees. In frustration, he resorted to taking his life.

According to a resident of the community, Ya’u Ahmad Garo, the deceased was rush to the hospital after lighting himself up. Unfortunately for the young lad, he lost his life two days later after the sad incident. A neighbour of the deceased who asked to be kept anonymous told Daily Trust that “Danladi used to go and work in one mechanic garage, so after getting his pay for the day, he used them to buy fuel, and later entered one room in their house, poured it on his body, and set himself ablaze.” The source added, “However, when the fire heat penetrated his body, he started crying for help. People were able to put it off and rushed him to the hospital. Two days later, he died due to the injuries he sustained from the fire.”
