SHOCKER: 17-year-old girl killed for wearing jeans

A 17-year-old girl was beaten to death for wearing jeans.

Neha Paswan, a young girl from the northern state of Uttar Pradesh in India, was allegedly killed by members of her extended family because she wore jeans to a family ritual.

The girl's mother told BBC that her outfit sparked outrage amongst members of her extended family. Her grandfather, uncles, and auto-driver didn't find her dressing appealing, so they beat her to stupor.

Her mother said, "She had kept a day-long religious fast. In the evening, she put on a pair of jeans and a top and performed her rituals. When her grandparents objected to her attire, Neha retorted that jeans were made to be worn and that she would wear it."

The poor girl, who couldn't take the pain anymore, kicked the bucket the following day.

Her body was found hanging from the bridge over the Gandak river that flows through the region.

The girl's father lamented that he has worked hard to give his children quality education, including Neha. He pointed out that Neha loved modern wear and hoped to become a policewoman when she's grown up.

A senior police officer, Shriyash Tripathi, made it known that four suspects have been arrested and are currently being investigated.

The police have also lodged a case against 10 people, including her grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins, etc.
