Nigerian athletes in Tokyo have taken to the streets of Tokyo to demonstrate after they were disqualified from further participating in the competition.
Ten athletes were disqualified after failing to follow laid-down procedures, which included taking some compulsory tests.
One of the disqualified athletes accused the African Federation of Nigeria of leaving them in the dark concerning the testing issues. She said:
"The African Federation of Nigeria did not go through the processes to set up proper testing for us athletes. They left us in the dark about this drug testing issue until the last minute, when we were left helpless. We cannot let anything like this happen again to athletes, devastating dreams and crushing opportunities."
The frustrated athletes staged a protest in the streets of Tokyo, demanding that they be allowed to participate in the track and field events in the competition.
The protesting athletes were Ruth Usoro, Chioma Onyekwere, Glory Patrick, Chidi Okezie, Favour Ofili, Annette Echikunwoke, and others.
