A fire broke out at a building in Prophet T.B. Joshua's church on Monday, disrupting the late cleric's funeral candlelight service. Punch Newspapers first reported the incident, which started around 11pm.
A live-streamed video of the incident showed members of the Synagogue church in disarray as fire gutted the building. Firefighters later arrived at the scene, and no lives were lost.
T.B. Joshua Ministries confirmed in a statement that the inferno was due to a "minor electrical fire", adding "the incident was quickly brought under control without any injuries".
Joshua died on June 5, 2021, and the Synagogue announced a week-long service in his honour. In the interim, his wife has been put in charge of the church.
