A Federal High Court in Lagos has adjourned till October 5 to continue the trial of Afeez Adeshina Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley.
The singer was first arrested in May 2019 for possessing credit cards that weren't his and for 'conspiring' to use them for fraud. According to the EFCC, Marley's actions contravened the Money Laundering (Prohibition) and the Cyber Crimes Acts. The investigative body also stated that it had "overwhelming evidence" against the "Soapy" crooner.
Naira Marley faces an 11-count charge. If found guilty, he may be sentenced to a minimum of seven years in prison.
During the trial on Monday, his attorney, Akinwale Kola-Taiwo, prayed that the case is adjourned because the resumption of the trial "was only meant for mention and not for prosecution".
Justice Nicholas Oweibo then moved the trial till October 5th, even though EFCC's counsel, Bilkisu Buhari, asked the court to call in the witnesses: Nuru Buhari Dalhatu and Augustine Anosike, to continue the persecution.
