Oko Iyabo movie: TAMPAN suspends Yomi Fabiyi indefinitely

The Theater Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners’ Association (TAMPAN) has indefinitely suspended Yomi Fabiyi over his 'Oko Iyabo' movie.

Few days after Olanrewaju Omiyinka, popularly known as Baba Ijesha, was released on bail, Yomi Fabiyi released a controversial movie that depicted his version of the Baba Ijesha assault case.

Unfortunately for the producer, the movie was received coldly as many of his colleagues called him out for supporting rape.

In reaction to the movie release, TAMPAN expelled Mr Fabiyi indefinitely. Describing Fabiyi's movie as a product of "misconduct", the movie body said it was unprofessional to use real names and stories of people without their consent and Fabiyi's moves have "negatively affected the image of the organization".

“No one is allowed to use a real name(s) of other person(s) in a feature film", the association said in a statement.

Although Mr. Fabiyi was suspended indefinitely, his co-director, Mr. Dele Matti, was suspended for three months having admitted his faults and mistakes. However, Mr Fabiyi insisted that it was part of his fundamental human rights to express his point of view through his works.

TAMPAN refused to accept the excuse as they also insisted that his moves were wrong as the case was still in court and that his work could influence the public's opinion on the issue.
