Oyedepo's Winners church was right in firing Pastor Peter Godwin, Omokri says

Human rights activist, Reno Omokri, has defended Bishop David Oyedepo's Winners church amidst allegations by one Pastor Peter Godwin, who says he was fired by the church. In a video first published by Pararan Mock News, Godwin said the Living Faith Church sacked him, alongside 40 pastors, for generating "low income". The pastor also presented a letter of release which he claimed was handed over to him, saying he was told that "the church doesn't operate at a loss".

Godwin's statement garnered reactions from many Nigerians, and Reno Omokri is one of them. The ex-presidential assistant threw his weight behind Winners in a statement on his social media handles. He said the Pastors' sacking was not related to money but "church growth". Using a bible passage, Omokri maintained that "any pastor who fails at that core duty [of church growth] should be sacked".

"The sacked pastor who went to the press after releasing a live video is playing on your emotions. He is not considering that he is undermining the faith of believers", Omokri declared.

A source who confirmed the development to The Punch said Godwin and other pastors were "sacked for failing to grow membership" and not because of income like he claimed.
